The Chequers pub in Poole has temporarily closed to make way for a major investment from leading pub company Punch Pubs & Co.

The beloved pub will be completely transformed thanks to the £410k investment which will boast internal and external upgrades, an all-new bar and dining area, a secret back garden and a plush lounge area.

New Management Partner, Ryan Andress, returning to the hospitality industry following a brief break, is excited to relaunch the Chequers and cannot wait to welcome back guests old and new.

He said: “The Chequers is a fantastic pub with an incredible amount of potential. We know that it is loved in the community, and our priority is to ensure that we retain the same feel that customers know and love but enhance its features and qualities to make it better than ever before. I’m excited to see our plans come to life, and looking forward to welcoming back the community with our new look.”

Plans for the Chequers will see the pub become the central hub of the village. The new pub area will embrace a traditional style with bar stools and rustic furniture to honour the pub’s heritage, alongside a darts board and leather seating to add entertainment and comfort.

Pendant lighting will bring a warm glow, whilst the back bar will be adorned in characteristic ornaments to add a touch of eclecticism – perfectly housing the pub’s vast range of beers and spirits, wines, cocktails and softs.

Aside from the bar area, the Chequers will boast a cosy new and intimate snug with richly textured fabrics, vintage-inspired touches, antique side tables and plush stools, complementing velvet sofas and leather armchairs perfect for unwinding or enjoying a leisurely game of backgammon.

Keeping with the relaxed and cosy theme, the lounge will be designed for guests to unwind and feel at home. Sofas and coffee tables will create a gentle and inviting space with soft ambient lighting to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Guests will be delighted with the enhanced and beautifully decorated new garden room conservatory featuring a mix of traditional timber, plants and potted herbs creating a warm surrounding that’s both rustic and refined.

Its secret back garden also offers an enchanting alfresco dining experience. Antique-stye mirrors are set to enhance the garden’s depth adding a touch of vintage elegance, but retaining the same feel as inside of the transformed village local. Rustic benches and cosy bistro sets invite guests to relax, while cushions and seat pads provide comfort and an earthy texture to complement the outdoor ambience.

It’s not just aesthetic changes that villagers have to look forward to, the refurbished Chequers Inn will also offer brand-new food offerings of seasonal dishes, hearty mains and scrumptious puddings. Ryan’s decision to bring back the once-famous carvery is expected to make the Chequers the talk of the village; making Sundays extra special, the pub hopes to draw in guests for family get-togethers or occasions to enjoy sumptuous roasts with all the trimmings.

The mammoth investment is due to be completed in late March, with the progress of the transformation being shared across the pubs’ social media pages.
