On Sunday, 20th October, the community of Brentwood and beyond came together to watch the unveiling of a Remembrance War mural which has been hand-painted onto the side of a local pub.
The Spread Eagle pub on Queens Road in Brentwood, Essex, held an unveiling ceremony attended by over 50 members of the local community, current and ex-military personnel, local Mayor Mark Haigh and Father Ossie of St Thomas of Canterbury Church to commemorate the new war mural.
The pub’s General Manager, Anna Heim, a military mum who has three generations of servicemen in her family, organised the unveiling event after enlisting the help of London mural artist Mario Corile to depict the moving image.
Anna said: “The Copfold Road side wall of the Spread Eagle pub has been painted for several years now, and has become somewhat of a local tradition. Each year it’s refreshed with bright, bold and meaningful imagery. This particular painting is really important to me, and I think it is wonderful that we can honour those within our community who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces.
“The unveiling event was a huge success, and the team and I want to thank everybody involved in making this event happen, from organising to helping out on the day. I’m thrilled with the final look which has been complimented by guests new and old.”
The impressive painting, which took five days to complete, has attracted a lot of attention locally and will remain on the pub until it’s refreshed next Spring.
