The Queens Head Hotel, sits on the edge of lively Durham city and is a community pub offering both bar/lounge space alongside its letting rooms. Customers include those popping in for a drink, students and visitors and we are looking for a passionate publican to bring out the best in this pub making it a welcoming and great place to enjoy a drink or enjoy a game of pool, and also to stay as there is a great opportunity to develop the letting rooms for those visiting the city.
This pub offers a bar area (offering pool and darts) alongside a further area with space for around 60, it also has a rear beer garden for those warmer summer days and evenings. It offers parking facilities on the side of the building offering easy access to the pub. There are three letting rooms – a full investment is planned that will provide new-look externals, a full internal refurbishment, and much enhanced facilities for watching sport and playing darts and pool. The investment will include new domestic accommodation to the 1st floor.
Our new Publican will establish themselves at the centre of the local population and the significant student crowd and, therefore have a love and passion for all sorts of sport and entertainment. We’ll be sponsoring sports Teams, competing in the darts and pool leagues, and building brilliant relationships with local charities and community groups.
The Queen’s Head will have a great drinks range that will be priced below our local competitors and will run a daily program of pub-activity including live music, karaoke, quiz and bingo.
About the local area
The Queens Head is right on the edge of Durham’s vibrant student area, and there is great opportunity to attract this audience with the right offer. There are also families and professionals living in the immediate area, and a new set of apartments is being built nearby the pub. There are plenty of attractions across the city including the famous cathedral and the wider surrounding area, which offers moorland walks and golden beaches, museums and state-of-the-art shopping centres.

Your journey with us will begin with the Progress with Punch award-winning one-week training course in our £1M academy with a state-of-the-art kitchen, two bars and a cellar. Then, your Operations Manager will give you what you need to succeed with a warm, community pub investment, full live sports coverage, great value drinks pricing, and a weekly entertainment calendar. You’ll be free to focus on your exceptional pub standards and consistently epic service.
But that’s not all. In addition to substantially investing in your pub and pricing your drinks competitively to help you build solid trade, we’ll also give you a significant entertainment budget. You’ll have the capital to drive new footfall with quizzes, bingo, karaoke, charity events, DJs, and live bands. Your sports offer will also be essential. So, we will provide Sky and TNT sports.
We will pay for all costs, other than the team labour costs, from 20% of your sales Management Fee. And you’ll have the marketing support needed to ensure your business flies. Your Operations Manager will be by your side, committed to visiting your pub two to three times every week.
