Historic pub The Rocket, in Prescot, relaunched last week following our transformational £240,000 investment with multiple operator Sue Gilbertson at the helm.
This early 19th century pub, named after the famous ‘Stephenson’s Rocket’ which won the Rainhill steam trials in 1829, has been given a new look whilst maintaining all its historical charm and character. The facelift includes a full external redecoration with new signage installed, and an extensive interior refurbishment, which has opened the pub up with a new bar servery that faces the entrance creating a more welcoming and warm reception for guests as they enter the pub.
There are new fixtures and fittings throughout, including reclaimed and new furniture and feature wallpaper which celebrates the pub’s rich history. Customers can enjoy the warmth of the fire and when the warmer weather returns, they can also enjoy the charming beer garden which has been enhanced through decoration and new furniture.
This is the second Punch pub launch for experienced Publican Sue, who also runs the Dealers Arms in nearby Garston. Together with her experienced pub managing team, Keith, who will be looking after the day to day running of the pub and Elaine who is head of kitchen and catering events; the team have great plans to rejuvenate the pub which will have a strong community vibe, providing a unique environment that customers won’t ever want to leave.
Sue said: “We’re delighted with the new pub and the response from our customers has been that they love the refurbishment.
“We’ve been welcoming old customers and new faces that we haven’t seen before that we’re so glad to see at the pub. We have lots planned over the next few weeks, including fundraising, quiz nights, and we’re super excited to be launching our brand-new menu in January.”
The pub will offer regular live entertainment and have already started to welcome back some pub sporting teams for pool, darts and football. With five newly installed TVs including a 75-inch screen and the addition of both Sky Sports, BT Sport & Amazon Prime, The Rocket will show all the key sporting events throughout the year.
Punch’s Managing Director, Andy Spencer, said: “This is a significant investment by Punch in a great community pub and we are pleased with the new look created. We are thrilled to be working with Sue and her experienced team and we are confident that The Rocket will go from strength to strength operating at the very heart of the community it serves.”
Punch owns and operates 1,200 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales and has big plans to unlock phenomenal pub possibilities for entrepreneurs and communities across the UK by investing £34 million in its people and pubs in the next year.
