The Spread Eagle pub on Queens Road in Brentwood, Essex, is commemorating the fallen and serving forces this October with a War Memorial mural painted onto the Copfold Road side of the pub.
A local tradition that dates back almost a decade, the side wall of the Spread Eagle is painted annually with bright, bold, and meaningful imagery. London mural artist Mario Corile is currently repainting it in preparation for its unveiling on Sunday, October 20th.
General Manager Anna Heim has been at the helm of the Spread Eagle for the last five months and wanted to mark this year’s painting with a special celebration.
As a military mum with three generations of servicemen in her family, this particular mural is sentimental to Anna, who’s organising a huge event for the Brentwood community and beyond to get involved with.
Anna said: “This particular painting is really important to me, and as somewhat of a local tradition, I think it’s really important to get the community involved. I think it’s wonderful that we can honour those within our community who have served in the Armed Forces or perhaps know of somebody who has.
“The team and I are really looking forward to the unveiling and welcoming guests, old and new, to join us.”
To celebrate the unveiling of the War Memorial mural, Anna has organised a family-friendly event and is welcoming guests, ex-servicemen, veterans and current Military personnel to join them.
Starting at 11:30 am, guests are invited to join in the occasion which will begin with a performance by a Military Marching Band followed by an address by local Mayor, Mark Haigh, and prayers by Father Ossie of St Thomas of Canterbury Church.
Guests are then invited to join Anna and the team at the Spread Eagle for drinks and food.
