The Plough pub in Effingham, Surrey, closed at the start of January as it undergoes a £340k investment with leading pub company, Punch Pubs & Co.

The investment, which is due to finish at the beginning of February, will focus on improving all areas of the pub, including internal and external redecorations, new signage, and a brand-new food menu.

Speaking about the changes, Punch Pubs & Co Operations Manager, Chris Reich, said: “The Plough is a fantastic pub that has amassed a loyal and loving customer base over the years. This investment is being completed for all the right reasons, mostly for our guests, as we want to ensure that their local remains at the heart of the community for many years to come.

“Our purpose is to enhance this country pub, creating a warm, inviting and traditional space that can be enjoyed by guests both new and old. I want to reassure villagers that the same Plough that they know, and love, will be making a return, but I can promise it will be even better than before.”

Whilst the quintessential characteristics of the Plough and its rustic charm will be retained, locals to the pub will be delighted by the investment which promises to exude rustic charm, boast heritage elements and provide a cosy atmosphere for locals and visitors.

New to the Plough will be an inviting snug area surrounded by armchairs, pouffes, upholstered stools, and eclectic tables, which will complement the charming character of the pub’s dining space.

The bar will be enhanced with new fittings and shelves to house the pub’s vast array of drinks, from local real ales, and luxurious wines and spirits to craft beer, ciders, and a range of soft drinks. The heart of the Plough – its dining area – will also be completely transformed.

The new restaurant promises to be cosy, yet sophisticated, integrating antique tables and chairs alongside new fixed seating, brass wall lights and feature lamps to create the perfect warm ambient glow. It’s not just the look and feel of the room that’s changing. The Plough’s new dining menu will feature new dishes of Angus sirloin steak, pan-fried lamb rump and eight-hour slow-cooked pork belly, alongside wild mushroom bourguignon pie and sesame-coated salmon rice noodles.

The Plough will remain closed until the investment is complete, but changes to the much-loved pub are being shared with the community, and can be followed, via the pub’s social media pages.
